About

Hey there, I’m Julie Prescesky.

Find my contact info here –  https://linktr.ee/julieprescesky

I write novels for children and adults, dream up picture books, and illustrate print designs for pajamas. I am part of a family of five humans, two cats, and one elderly Bavarian Mountain Scent Hound who wishes she was, in fact, a lap dog.

I’m a proud member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and serve as Montreal Coordinator. We run monthly gatherings to talk about craft, the industry, and to forge contacts and good friendships.

If you have a need for creative direction, illustration and/ or design services, contact me and let’s talk about your project.

How did I get here?

My education is in Multidisciplinary Fine Arts (meaning, I just wanted to do everything), but even prior to that I had always been an artist at heart. One of my earliest memories, at age 3, is when I drew a bunny on a wall lined with newsprint and won a drawing contest in my very small countryside community in British Columbia, not far from Vancouver. That tickled me and a seed was planted that somehow there was a flame inside me that I needed to protect and grow. Since then, my life has been centred around what I see more as a compulsion than a skill or gift. I can’t not be this way, so I’m happy to put it to good use.

 Fun Facts:

  • I’m writing a series of fantasy novels for young adults. Writing is a whole other form of therapy – a whole other way of experiencing the world. I highly recommend trying it. Sticking to a schedule helps tremendously. I think a lot about the world of publishing and how rapidly it is changing.

  • I love to sew. My mom was an amazing seamstress and I learned this skill from her. She’s no longer on this earth, but I’m so happy to have this shared form of expression and skill – part of my beloved inheritance.

  • One summer I was stung a total of six times and I’ve found muddy clay to be a good remedy to prevent swelling. Yes, I have a deep love of the honeybee.

  • I love love love urban sketching and event sketching. Drop me a line if you’d like me to sketch your event (wedding, anniversary, festival, corporate shindig, birthday parties, etc).  See my Urban sketching portfolio here.
